Cordoba, Veracruz .- Although annual flower production in the country generated a profit of approximately $ 60 million, there are problems of organization to effectively tackle domestic and international markets, only America has the capacity create demand for up to one billion dollars annually in consumption of ornamental plants.

For Luis Granada Carter, president of the Consejo Mexicano de la Flor, requires short-term doubling the current area intended for ornamental and joint efforts between organizations domes and producers, as so far the actions are individual and parochial.

He acknowledged that to date no one has a reliable census of ornamental growers and therefore also do not have total figures on domestic and international marketing, however, each year more productive force in other neighboring states to the Midwest.

He emphasized that the economic crisis and the derivative of the occurrence of influenza and contingent actions led to a significant drop in sales for the ornamental sector, however, there are interesting opportunities in the export to U.S. and European markets.

By participating in the first symposium Ornamental Business Successful Experiences and Market Trends, which gave a lecture "Current status of ornamental production in Mexico, opportunities and challenges", within the activities Pre-National Horticulture Congress held in this city, Luis Granada said today, USA is the biggest market for flowers, because year earnings are up $ 60 million.

But also, there is a factor for Mexican producers: Climate change. "Unlike other countries to which the weather affects them considerably in recent years, Mexico has benefited greatly by what you should use this situation to boost flower exports to other nations."

Thus, he said, earnings in this sector can rise considerably, provided they implement appropriate action. In recent years flower exports to the United States have greatly increased since this market has the capacity to generate up to one billion dollars annually.
