Tall Bearded Iris (TB) make up over 350 of our approximately 400 varieties of iris. Their stalks are over 27” tall. Peak bloom season for the tall bearded iris is generally from mid- to late May.
Miniature Tall Bearded Iris (MTB) range in height from 16” to 27” but the flowers are much smaller, making them especially useful in flower arrangements. They bloom with the TBs.
Border Bearded Iris (BB) have a slightly smaller flower than the TBs and they are shorter, standing only 16” to 27” tall. They bloom with the TBs.
Intermediate Bearded Iris (IB) also range from 16” to 27” tall, but their bloom season is earlier than the TBs, overlapping with the SDBs.
Standard Dwarf Bearded Iris (SDB) stand from 8” to 16” tall. These varieties have small blooms and form clumps quickly, resulting in a mass of early spring color. Their bloom season starts around the first of May.
We carry several varieties of Reblooming Iris, which bloom in May and again in the fall, anywhere from August through the middle of November, depending on the variety.
Besides the bearded iris, which we sell bareroot, we also carry the following potted irises: Iris cristata, several varieties of Iris ensata (Japanese), Iris lousiana, Iris pseudacorus, and Iris siberica (Siberian). A complete list can be found on our perennial list.
